Dr Petre Breazu

Dr Breazu is a MSCA Postdoctoral Fellow at Loughborough University London and the investigator of Romaphobia in the Age of Populism.

Dr Petre Breazu’s research lies in the area of discourse and racism, with special focus on the representation of the Roma in European media and political discourse. He works under the framework of Multimodal Critical Discourse Analysis (MCDA) to examine practices of discrimination and social exclusion with regards to Roma and other marginalised communities.

Petre’s previous research has addressed the textual and visual constructions of the Roma in Romanian press, television news and social media and his work has been published in international peer-reviewed journals, such as Discourse and Communication, Discourse and Society, Ethnicities, Language in Society and Social Identities. Professor Aidan McGarry

Aidan McGarry is Professor of International Politics and Associate Dean for Research at Loughborough University, London. Professor McGarry is an internationally renowned scholar, known for his groundbreaking research on Roma communities in Europe and he is a leading expert in political representation and participation of marginalised groups.

Professor McGarry has published a significant peer-reviewed articles, monographs, book chapters and edited volumes on topics relating to racism and media and political discourse.
